The Federal Government has announced a new $1000 rebate for homeowners to replace their electric water heater with a solar water heater or a heat pump water heater as part of a major step in reducing greenhouse emissions.
Hot water can account for up to one third of an average household’s energy consumption. Electricity created from coal fired power stations produces high levels of greenhouse gas emissions, so looking for ways to reduce the use of this power is an effective way of cutting emissions. Now that we have viable alternatives to electric water heaters, this federal government rebate will support the changeover to more sustainable styles of water heater.
Households replacing their existing electric water heater with an environmentally friendly water heater, such as a Dux Sunpro solar system or Dux Airoheat heat pump, may be eligible for the new rebate.
Under the program, which will cost $252.2 million over the next five years, households may be eligible for a $1000 rebate to help with the cost of solar and heat pump hot water systems as a way of reducing their energy use and cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
Rebates will be available for up to 225,000 households over the five years – resulting in significant greenhouse gas savings for the nation, while providing long-term financial benefits for households.
